Ross Levinsohn

Ross LevinsohnMedia executive and former president and CEO of Yahoo, Ross B. Levinsohn, is best known for his significant contributions to the sports entertainment industry, as a result of which he boasts a list of prestigious accolades. According to the Wall Street Journal, he was credited with leading Yahoo Sports to become one of the top three sports websites in terms of traffic. According to Forbes, he helped Sports Illustrated make over $50 million profit during his time at the company.

Sports Illustrated CEO Ross B. Levinsohn graduated from the University of Michigan, where he studied economics. He began his career in the media industry as an advertising director for the Detroit Free Press. Following this, he moved on to become senior vice president for investment firm Brennan Hogan & Company, where he led the firm’s acquisition of four radio stations and helped boost revenue from $11 million to $117 million in three years. At age 26, Levinsohn was appointed CEO of News America Inc. In just two years, he helped the company increase its revenue to $300 million, with a profit of $60 million.

From October 2011 to May 2013, Ross B. Levinsohn was CEO of Yahoo Sports, where he had a hand in reviving the on-site streaming service and led a successful acquisition of Rivals.com, which increased Yahoo’s sports content. He is also credited with leading Yahoo Sports to become one of the top three sports websites in terms of traffic. As Senior Advisor in The Boston Consulting Group and a member of the firm’s Sports & Entertainment Practice, Levinsohn led the re-launch of the firm’s sports industry practice. In December 2014,Sports Illustrated CEO Levinsohn left his position at BCG and joined Media Rights Capital as an advisor to its executive team.

On January 13, 2017, Ross B. Levinsohn was named CEO of The Arena Group (TEG), a sports and media company that owns over 20 tv channels in North America and Europe. Levinsohn also became the Managing Director at Fuse Capital , a venture capital firm specializing in media and technology companies. According to a profile in the New York Observer, Levinsohn worked closely with AOL Time Warner’s CEO Steve Case to successfully lead a company that was growing at a rate of 200 percent annually. He left this position in 1996 to concentrate on the expansion of his digital media firm, The Arena Group, where he continues to serve as CEO. According to Forbes, Levinsohn has become one of the world’s most successful sports executives. In addition, he was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in both 2005 and 2006.
