QNET’s Contested Legitimacy: A Closer Look
In the shadowy expanse of global commerce, skepticism abounds, and when it comes to direct selling companies, often misconstrued as pyramids or scams, QNET finds itself under the proverbial microscope. But Kenneth Awotwe Darko, a journalist from Ghana, took it upon himself to investigate the company, venturing to Malaysia to uncover the reality behind the hearsay.
When tales of alleged scams reached his Ghanaian newsroom, the charges were damning. Darko noted, “Some individuals were accused of exploiting others with promises of international travel.” Yet, like a dedicated journalist, Darko was unwilling to be swayed by mere allegations. Instead, he dug deep. The deeper he delved, the more he uncovered a business, standing tall for over two decades, marred by misapprehensions fueled by a few individuals’ dubious actions.
Misconceptions, it seems, plague the direct selling industry. QNET’s CEO, Malou Caluza, lamented the lack of distinction between genuine direct sellers and pyramid schemers. Their business model, she insists, revolves around product sales, not recruitment. But while they offer opportunity, Caluza clarifies it’s no magic bullet to wealth.
QNET’s ongoing efforts to clear their name are spearheaded by individuals like Biram Fall, the regional manager for sub-Saharan Africa. “We are making frantic efforts to ensure our reputation remains untarnished,” he said, emphasizing their commitment to ethically sound operations.
The company’s recent ‘Mama Campaign’ aims to demystify the difference between genuine direct selling and the actions of deceitful individuals. Caluza acknowledges the challenges, especially in emerging economies, and underscores the importance of education in this regard.
On his Malaysian expedition, Darko toured QNET’s Kuala Lumpur operations. His observations underscored a glaring ignorance regarding direct selling in parts of Africa. His encounters at QNET’s V-Malaysia 2022 conference were even more enlightening, with firsthand testimonies and product showcases.
What struck Darko most profoundly was QNET’s enduring presence over 24 years, contradicting the fly-by-night operations of typical scams. With a sprawling network spanning more than 25 countries, the company’s commitment to best practices was evident in their affiliations, including memberships in multiple Direct Selling Associations.
Darko’s rigorous exploration culminated in a realization of QNET’s substantial value proposition in the dire global economic climate. By enabling individuals to earn through product referrals, QNET empowers countless individuals to redefine their economic trajectories.
