Ross Levinsohn

Ross LevinsohnSports Illustrated is one of the most prestigious magazines in America, and Ross Levinsohn became its CEO just over two years ago. He wanted to make a name for himself, so he compiled an impressive resume before taking on this new role. Ross started as a reporter for Sports on Earth, moving onto SI’s website – covering their events in depth before becoming editor-in-chief of SI Live in 2007. After that, he became a senior managing editor at Time Inc. and Yahoo! Sports and as an executive at Fox Sports.

Sports Illustrated CEO takes a hands-on approach to managing the company, taking on many tasks that others might need to consider. For example, he’s worked with other board members to hire staff for SI’s New York offices, and he works hard to reach out to different authors that work for the magazines. He’s been known to be around the magazine and talking to the editors, which shows passion for his work and what he wants to get out of it.

Sports Illustrated CEO is also known as a man of strong opinions. He’s made comments about poor writers on Twitter, going as far as saying that they should be fired. He voiced his opinion on the issue of athlete pay in sports and told writers that they could not complain about not getting paid when they don’t cover athletes well enough. He later apologized for this comment by saying that he meant to express his frustration with certain writers, but he still doesn’t agree with this approach.

Some of his more exciting accomplishments include writing for SI when he was a college student. It was a huge accomplishment, considering that most of the staff at Sports Illustrated started as journalists. By writing for the magazine – something very few people can say they’ve done – he proved himself to be a man of conviction. He’s also made an effort to make connections with authors, at least according to Sports Illustrated staffer Michael McCann – one who frequently talks about his efforts on Twitter. There aren’t many people you can mention who was on staff with him as long ago as 2007 and continue to work there now, which shows how well respected he is by others in his field.
