Randy Douthit Shares His Journey to Lady Justice
Randy Douthit is a talented producer and director, popularly known for his roles in Crossfire, Larry King Live, Judge Judy, and Lady Justice. While he currently works with Judge Judy Sheindlin, he didn’t start there. Randy has worked on multiple shows before finally finding his place alongside the judge.
How Randy Got Into This Business
Randy has always wanted to work in television ever since he was a kid. At 23, he started working as a director at KGW TV in Portland. He then proceeded to direct a kid’s show called How Come. Later, he produced a morning talk show called Seattle Today and helped grow the show’s audience ten times.
Randy moved on to CNN when it was fairly new and directed and produced Crossfire. At the time, this was CNN’s leading show. He also produced Capital Gang for CNN, and both shows won CableAce Awards. In 1985, Randy produced and directed Larry King Live and later moved to Quincy Jones Entertainment, where he was in charge of the development of Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Landing in Judge Judy
Randy Douthit started working on Judge Judy in 1996 as an executive producer and director. He has been part of the team for over two decades and claims this is one of his proudest achievements. Over the years, the show has earned an Emmy Award three times. After more than 25 years, Judge Judy aired its last episode in 2021. However, this wasn’t the end. The show changed networks from CBS to Amazon Studios under a different name, which is Lady Justice.
Even though this transition happened during a pandemic where there were many measures to be followed, Randy and his team were able to produce 120 episodes in just three months. Everyone on the team rolled up their sleeves, adhered to the rules in place, and were able to make it work.
