Ben Roethlisberger: Football Is Not Everything
Ben Roethlisberger was destined to be a star athlete. In high school, not only did he play football, he was
also the captain of the basketball and baseball teams. During his senior year
at Findlay High School, Roethlisberger set several state records in football.
After high school, Roethlisberger continued his football career at the Miami of Ohio.
He was the starting quarterback for three straight years. Roethlisberger’s
impressive stats set him up to be a first round pick in the NFL Draft.
Roethlisberger was the 11th overall pick and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He
stayed with the Pittsburgh Steelers his entire
career. Roethlisberger played with the Steelers his entire career. He played in
216 games and won two Super Bowls, seven AFC North Championships, and four AFC
Championships.
Even though Roethlisberger had a great football career, now that he is retired, he
hopes he is remembered for other great things. Retirement has given him time to
focus on his family. Roethlisberger wants to be known for taking the time to
put his family first.
In addition to football and family, Ben Roethlisberger is involved in several philanthropic efforts.
While still playing ball, he founded the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation. Among
other things, the foundation was known for providing support to K-9 units
throughout the United States. He and his wife are also supporters of NeoLight.
NeoLight is a company that donates phototherapy lights to hospitals. Hospitals,
in turn, loan out the lights to parents with jaundiced babies.
After he retired from football, Rothlisberger renamed his foundation to the
Roethlisberger Family Foundation. According to Rothlisberger, the foundation
involves the entire family, including his parents and children. The
foundation’s goal is to help provide resources for families to forge strong
bonds. Rothlisberger opened a retreat to give fathers and sons a place to go
and enjoy outdoor activities while building a healthy relationship. He wants
others to have the type of relationship he has with his father. Refer to this article to learn more.
