There many humanitarian groups that have been formed in an attempt to restore sanity in the society. This is as a result of the high levels of injustices. Sometimes, people who are convicted as criminals are not necessarily criminals. Some of them never had an ear to listen to them. Read more: Village Voice Media | Wikipedia and Jim Larkin | LinkedIn
Humanitarian groups are ready to use their time and resources to see that justice prevails in the society. Different philanthropic groups fight for different things. They, however, share one common goal. They all want to see that every individual in the community receives equal treatment without considering their race, nationality, religion among other factors. Here are examples of various humanitarian groups and what they fight for;
Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
The Frontera Fund was formed by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. These two are the co-founders of ‘’The Phoenix New Times’’. They have spent a large portion of their career advocating for human rights. They were responsible for the implementation of the first amendments. This motivated them in their philanthropic work.
This is how they managed to expose Sheriff Joe. They wrote a story of his evil deeds as the headline of the New Times. The community thought they were crazy. No one would have ever tried to overstep the sheriff’s boundaries.
When the Sheriff learned what they had done, he was very agitated. He arrested them from their homes and drove them to an unfamiliar location.
This arrest, therefore, was termed as illegal because of failure to follow the right procedure. They were therefore compensated with $3.75 million.
They used the money to begin the Frontera Fund. They use the Frontera Fund to support and sponsor other Arizona philanthropic groups.
Arizona Project Justice
The Arizona Project Justice believes that if any individual is denied justice, it is justice denied to the whole society. This is why they look up for the prisoners.
They seek justice for inmates who claim to have serious diseases or are sick in jails. They are also involved in fighting for the convicts who were convicted guilty but claim to be innocent.
This is because some inmates may have lacked the funds to employ a lawyer for defense and with no legal representation ended up behind bars.
The Arizona Project Justice seeks to resolve such issues.
The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund
The disabled deserve better living as well as the others. The DREDF educate them and use advocacy to advance their rights. In many societies people only offer pity. This is not what they need. They need to be considered and offered opportunities.
The DREDF focuses on making sure the disabled are given chances to better themselves in the society.
The humanitarian groups have made a significant difference in the society. The philanthropic share a common goal of ensuring justice and equality is served to every individual.
The groups, however, focus on different groups of the societies. Some groups advocate for prisoners, others for disabled people and others immigrants among other minority groups in the society.
It, however, sums to one thing: Better human, immigrants and civil rights policies.
