Construction on the luxury, state of the art Hospital Copa Star began in 2013 and ended with the facility’s inauguration in October 2016. The hospital is located towards the south of Rio de Janeiro, along Figueiredo de Magalhaes street in the city’s Copacabana area. The new facility was developed with the goal of providing exclusive, personalized care to Rio’s residents.
Hospital Copa Star was developed and is operated by Rede D’Or, one of Brazil’s largest independent hospital operators. The facility represents an R$ 400 million investment, aimed at making healthcare more accessible to residents in the surrounding areas.
The hospital design implements architectural elements making it as luxurious as a five-star hotel, a concept Rede D’Or regularly implements in all its facilities. It has approximately 21,000 square meters of space spread over seven floors. The facility is equipped with advanced medical equipment. This includes hybrid rooms, intelligent operating theaters, integrated MRI equipment in neurosurgery theaters, and robotic medicine.
However, cutting-edge technology is not solely responsible for curing sick people. The hospital has also integrated contemporary and internationally approved flows and processes, designed with a focus on the patients and their families.
Further, Hospital Copa Star utilizes the Smart Hospital technology, which gives patients a heretofore unheard of degree of autonomy. Patients admitted to the facility can communicate with their doctors or nurses through the iPads provided to them. This level of technological innovation extends to the automation of bed features, with doctors and interns being able to access examination and patient records change a room’s lighting, and open or close curtains.
The facility’s intake area and corridors have also been specially designed to be calming and welcoming, utilizing on an internal atomization system and artwork by prolific Japanese artist, Yutaka Toyota.
The Hospital Copa Star has coupled innovative architectural and technological design with a highly trained, specialized and prolific team of healthcare professionals. The facility’s staff consists of 550 people, 113 of whom are doctors. Prior to its opening, the staff went through various training modules and simulations to prepare for every conceivable emergency situation. Visit their profile page on Facebook.Com
The facility has been accredited by the National Agency for Supplementary Health, ANS. Based on licensing, the hospital’s rate of readmission, and safety of the patient, this means that Hotel Copa Star meets the required criteria of quality in healthcare provision.
Rede D’Or has also acquired the third floor of the nearby Shopping Antiquaries in Rua Siqueira Campos, where administrative duties such as billing, maintenance, supply, laundry and clinical engineering are located. Rede D’Or has already set plans in motion to expand this concept to other major cities and towns in Brazil. The process to develop new facilities has already begun in Brasilia and Sao Paulo.
